The HELP Porcupine Cup 2024 was a true testament to the exceptional talent within the APU Badminton Club for both APU teams; displayed remarkable spirit, teamwork, and exceptional skills throughout the competition.
APU Team B secured 1st Runner-Up title.
The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Badminton Club delivered a stellar performance at the recent HELP Porcupine Cup 2024, clinching an impressive 1st Runner-Up finish!
Held on 16th March 2024 at the HELP International School Multi-Purpose Hall in Shah Alam, Selangor, the tournament saw APU fielding two teams — APU Team A and APU Team B — to compete against universities like Monash University Malaysia, Taylor’s University, Sunway University, International Medical University (IMU), HELP University, and Xiamen University Malaysia.
The draw placed APU Team A in a tough group alongside Sunway and Taylor’s. They started strong, defeating Taylor’s, 2-1, but unfortunately fell to Sunway, 1-2. Despite their valiant effort, APU Team A’s journey ended in the group stage.
Shane Kyle Christian, Tang Chye Fung, Brian Teo Jun Tao, Nicholas Tang Yi Shuo, Gan Zi Yu, and Chan Hong Jin all became members of APU Team A.
Meanwhile, APU Team B dominated their group, securing convincing victories against both HELP Team B, 2-1, and IMU, 3-0.
APU Team B was joined by Kua Qiu Zheng, Tan Qi Yuan, Chen Zi Rong, Lim Zhen Jie, Low Ke Sin, Hoh Jane Huey, and Marcus Lee Chuan Sheng.
This impressive performance propelled them into the semi-finals, where they faced HELP Team A. In a nail-biting match, APU Team B emerged victorious with a 2-1 win, booking their ticket to the finals!
The championship match pitted APU Team B against Monash University. Despite showcasing strategic gameplay and exceptional skill, APU ultimately fell short, losing 0-2 to a strong Monash team.
Nevertheless, APU Team B’s remarkable run through the tournament secured them a well-deserved 1st Runner-Up title!
