Maldivian Students at Asia Pacific University

Asia Pacific University, formerly known as APIIT & UCTI, remains a popular and preferred Institution of Higher Learning among Maldivian students. APU has been welcoming Maldivian students since our inception and to date, we have produced more than 1000 graduates from the Maldives. Currently, we have approximately 250 Maldivians who are pursuing various programmes at different levels with us including Certificate-level programmes, Diplomas, Bachelor Degrees, Masters programmes and even PhD programmes. We have always found Maldivian students to be diligent, hard-working and exemplary to other students and are also generally known to be high achievers among our international student's community that comprises approximately 12,000 students coming from over 130 countries.

Maldivian Students Association @ Asia Pacific University (MSA-APU)

With a large number of Maldivian students at APU, the students themselves have formed the "Maldivian Students Association @ Asia Pacific University (MSA-APU)" which is an officially recognised community at APU that actively make the fellow Maldivian students feel at home at APU. The MSA-APU also organises various events to mark different occasions including Maldives Independence Day, Islands Night, and Maldivian Eve to showcase the rich history and characteristics of the island country. MSA-APU also engages in organising various recreational activities among themselves including Badminton Tournaments, Pool Tournaments, Barbeque Gatherings, Maldivian Iftar Gatherings and Maldivian traditional "Maahefun" events among many more.

What do our Maldivian alumni say about Asia Pacific University (APU)?

Life at APU really complements the modern student’s lifestyle. Top notch facilities and online resources had made studying very motivational. Here, the learning experiences we are exposed to are not just limited to a syllabus. As a student in Tourism Studies, I had been given the opportunity to participate in events organised by Tourism Malaysia that enabled me to increase my knowledge and exposure on real industry issues. APU also prepares us for the future by supportively giving the chance to be creative and independent. As a member of the Maldivian Student Association I had the opportunity to lead and organise events which helped build my confidence and public speaking skills. APU encourages and facilitates us to thrive in the field of sports as well. Joining the netball club, I was given the exciting opportunity to partake in numerous tournaments throughout the country. Thanks to APU, I feel like I am now well prepared to face the real-world.

Graduate of the BA (Hons) in Tourism Management

The decision to study at  Asia Pacific University (APU) was one of the best decisions I made. For one to complete both undergraduate and postgraduate programs from the same university says a lot about APU. It was exciting mostly since the composition of students from all over the world enabled me to experience a unique and dynamic learning environment which redefined the knowledge that I already had in my profession. Not to mention, the lecturers are extremely qualified, accessible and approachable. That together with state of the art labs made the practical aspects very helpful. Love the fact that APU expects and demands high standards from their students and encourages every student to reach their full potential. It helped us grow as professionals. And since completing my studies, I have progressed further in my career. So I would highly recommend APU for those of you want who aspire to pursue a career in IT.

Graduate of the B.Sc (Hons) in Software Engineering

I found APU to be a great milestone for my professional and personal life. It was not only the intensity and extensiveness of the programme that prepared me to face the challenges of the work-life situations, but also the unique real life experiences the lecturers brought into the classroom. Each lecturer's different views of the real world were so realistic that I knew I would be challenged to think and act like a professional in real life. APU provided a personalized and intimate learning atmosphere. Despite the differences in the culture, each student was acknowledged as an individual and not just a face in the crowd. As an international student, I would state that my favourite thing about attending this university is the sense of community it offers on campus on any given day. My achievements are a direct reflection of my APU education, and I am eternally grateful for that experience.
