International Research Fellowship Award – Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman

Take APU into greater research heights by collaborating with talented young researchers in the areas of digital leadership, design thinking and innovation, colored brain communication, and other management-related topics.

The recent Reinventing University System Project 2021 lineup ten experienced professors from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, India, and Pakistan vying for the honour of participating in a research collaboration project under three different categories hosted by Mae Fah Luang University (MFU) in Thailand.

MFU established as an autonomous public university under the Royal Charter in 1998 with support from the Royal Thai Government and has grown to become one of the Top 8 universities in the ASEAN region with a student’s population of close to 15,000.

Our Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) Director, Graduate and Continuing Education Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman has been selected as an award recipient sponsored by MFU under the World Class Research Collaboration programme.

Professor Murali’s prestigious international project award will allow him to work with two researchers, Asst. Prof. Phakkharawat Sittiprapaporn as host advisor from MFU School of Anti-Aging and Regenerative Medicine and Prof. Azizuddin Khan from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), India.

With his team, Professor Murali will seek to understand if there is an impact of the brain color on leadership styles and organizational outcomes.

Represent APU in promoting social innovation in Malaysia

Professor Murali has been training people in colored brain communication for more than five years and is a qualified professional in this area popularized by Arthur Carmazi.

“My fellow partner in MFU is also certified in this area, and after some discussion, we submitted the application.”

Colored brain communication is a concept where people can be grouped into how they process information and perceive things and events.

There are four generic colors: green, purple, blue and red brain which could lead to different leadership styles and information processing.

"We hope to examine this further, and I also intend to promote social innovation in Malaysia," said Professor Murali, who is also the lead author for the Malaysian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI)'s Social Innovation Roadmap.

His long-term goal is to take APU into greater research heights by collaborating with talented young researchers in the areas of digital leadership, design thinking and innovation, colored brain communication, and other management-related topics with a focus on technology interventions.

Professor Murali who has published more than 85 papers in International Journals on digital business transformation, design thinking, digital leadership and mindset change, has secured several SCOPUS index papers in collaboration with other APU and external researchers.

He also secured several research accolades including the World Innovation Award (Korea), National Outstanding Award for Education Leadership and PECIPTA 2013 Gold Medal.

Besides colored brain communication project, other projects featured at this award include molecular microbiology, drug discovery and molecular pharmacology, health and medical sciences, biosciences, and agro-industry.

We look forward to the outcomes of this interesting project!
