Connecting Team Members on a Deeper Level through a series of Bonding Activities
A team that works well together is more effective, more productive, and more successful — not to mention happier and more fun to work with!
Let’s take a look at how the different Schools at APU are embracing team bonding and get to know each other a little better than just saying "Hello".
One Spirit, One Team – SoMAD & DLH bonding session
The School of Media, Arts, and Design (SOMAD) and Digital Learning Hub (DLH) teams have been working closely together since the beginning and they’ve been able to build a strong bond with one another. To continue fostering this relationship, the SOMAD and DLH team joined forces to organised an inter-department team bonding event which was held on 26th May 2022.
The excursion took placed on a sunny Thursday where the team enjoyed various preliminary group activities at Taman Putra Perdana, from jumping, running, balancing to strategizing, the team had an excellent time pushing their limits yet supporting and encouraging each other.
With a subtle hint of fear in their face, they arrived at District 21; which is a first of its kind, post-apocalyptic themed park featuring dozen of thrilling activities.
The teams competed in separate activities, racing to complete them in the shortest amount of time possible. At the end of the day, everyone gathered albeit exhausted but were smiling the entire time.
Prof. Dr. Abtar Kaur, DLH while sharing her excitement after the event said:-
“This form of team-bonding that we experienced with different departments coming together is totally unique and refreshing! We actually got to know SOMAD staff at a more intimate level and built camaraderie with them!”
Ms. Debbie Liew, SOMAD shared the following during her final debriefing.
“Through the series of well-planned activity-based team building, we got to let loose while remaining competitive to achieve the end goals together. This may be the first interdepartmental team building session, but we hope this will spark more interesting team bonding sessions for others.”
A Memorable Day Embracing Team Spirit by SoMM
On June 17, a one-day teambuilding event was held at Pulse Grande Hotel, Putrajaya for the School of Marketing & Management (SoMM). After two years of working remotely due to the pandemic, the event's goal was to restore a healthy, engaging, and collaborative work atmosphere by creating strong relationships among academic staff and clusters of the School of Marketing and Management.
Prof. Ho Chin Kuan took part in the teambuilding exercise as well, where he had the chance to socialise and get to know the SoMM staff.
Staff were taken on a journey through creative fun activities facilitated by Ts. Jonathan JS Kovilpillai, Ms. Fiona Lalitha Sadagopan, Mr. Gobinathan Manickam and Ms. Subaashnii Suppramaniam that were designed to help team members to see each other in a different light and connect in a different setting.
All members underwent a variety of exercises during the teambuilding process, building their leadership, communication, and delegating skills; with the aim of fostering cohesion and trust within the team.
This bonding trip has been especially memorable for all teams, as new friendships have flourished, and unforgettable experiences have been created.
