Loving And Giving: APU Community Celebrate Ihya’ Ramadan By Sharing ‘rizki’

AMCS gave back to the community by distributing 400 packages of ‘Bubur Lambuk’ and preparing delicious iftar meals for APU community, while those in need received pre-Aidilfitri preparations.

The month of Ramadan calls on Muslims to fast, exercise self-control and sacrifice, as well as express sympathy and love for those who are less fortunate.

For a multicultural university, Ramadan plays a special moment for all to expand their charitable efforts at Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU).

The APU Malay Cultural Society (AMCS) and collaboration partners handed 400 packets of ‘Bubur Lambuk’ (porridge) to APU students and staff.

This year, AMCS collaborated with the APU Muslim Association (APUMA), Federation of Peninsular Malay Students (GPMS), Wangsa Maju Youth Council (WMYC), Razak Rangers of Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK), The Giving Bank, and Drug Prevention Association of Malaysia (Pemadam) to complete two charity projects by the end of Ramadan as part of the university’s Ihya' Ramadan programme.

The two special Ramadan events called ‘Rewang Bubur Lambuk’ on 14 April and ‘Road2Raya’ on 16 April 2023, were warmly celebrated by a multi-cultural, multi-religious community who experienced fasting together and even breaking their fast together with APU’s multicultural students from over 130 countries.

“APU Ihya' Ramadan not only strengthens Muslim students’ and staff’s brotherhood but also shares Malay culture and traditions with foreign students and non-Muslim friends.

“We want to share the value of togetherness that we have in our culture, where we prepare, cook, pack and distribute the food together, as per say we call it ‘Rewang’ (community-based collaborative activity). The most important thing is to ensure that no one is excluded from the joys of Ramadan,” said AMCS Advisor Ms Aida Zamnah Zainal Abidin.

Mr Alang Sury from the Zaid bin Haritsah Mosque in Gombak become the head chef for Burbur Lambuk, assisted by senior lecturer Mr Ahmad Nadzri Roes, Mr Muhammad Fadhirul Anuar Mohd Azami, and two administrative staff, Ms Syaridatul Mardiah Zulkifli and Ms Meenalokshni Kesavan.

In addition to giving away Bubur Lambuk, they hosted a community iftar at APU Cafeteria, where they served home-cooked foods such as Chicken Rendang, mixed vegetables, Fried Noodles, and others.

Ms Aida who acted as the head chef to prepare the iftar dinner was also assisted by 30 APU students and 25 Razak Rangers members who worked in shifts to help prepare, cook, pack, and distribute the delicious iftar food.

Highlights of the Ihya’ Ramadan include the presence of 70 special guests from ‘Rumah Penyayang Anak Yatim dan Asnaf Ulu Yam Selangor, Dar Asnaf Alfateeh’, and ‘Rumah Bakti Al Kausar Bangi’.

Their presence further enlivened the programme with pre-Raya Aidilfitri gift packs sponsored by APU, Mydin, Furqon Natural Therapy Acupuncture Centre, and BeliKek.com.

The children from both schools were given a heart-warming pre-Aidilfitri shopping experience at Mydin Subang Jaya Hypermarket, where they were given school set hampers, ‘raya’ sets of clothing, songkok, and shoes, totalling RM7,000.

They were then all taken to the Furqon Natural Therapy Acupuncture Centre in Petaling Jaya to break the fast and receive gifts and ‘duit raya’ provided by BeliKek.com.
