On April 26, 2024, twelve Bachelor of Accounting and Finance (Honours) students and six Diploma in Accounting students from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) showcased their skills at the Accounting Quiz organised by the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA).

Guided by Ms Phuah Eng Sze and Ms Ili Syahirah Kamaruzaman, esteemed lecturers from APU’s School of Accounting & Finance (SoAF), the students participated in this prestigious event, part of the MICPA x CA ANZ Accountancy Week 2024. This year’s event, themed “Be Ready for Real”, was held in collaboration with the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) at its Gombak campus.
The Accountancy Week is an annual event aimed at promoting accountancy as a career and providing a platform for accounting students nationwide to network and interact. The event was sponsored by Bank Islam, BDO, Crowe, and Grant Thornton.
Twenty-three groups of Degree and Diploma students from universities across Malaysia, including Universiti Malaya, Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur, IIUM, Victoria University @ Sunway, Monash University, Politeknik Kuching Sarawak, and Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology, participated in the quiz.
The participants, divided into groups of three, took a written quiz in the preliminary round. The quiz tested knowledge in Accounting & Auditing, Taxation, Company & Commercial Law, Commercial Knowledge, and General Knowledge (Science, Politics, Entertainment, Literature, Economics, World History, Current Affairs, Malaysia, Geography, Sports, and Art).
Out of 18 groups in the Degree category and five groups in the Diploma category, APU’s student groups excelled, qualifying for the final round with high cumulative marks.

APU’s Diploma students emerged as champions in the Diploma category, winning a cash prize of RM600. Additionally, Siew Mei Hsia, a Diploma in Accounting student, was recognised as the highest individual scorer at the Diploma level, surpassing 14 other students.
The Champion prize for the Accounting Quiz at the Diploma level was awarded to APU’s team by Datuk Robert Yong Kuen Loke, CEO of MICPA Malaysia.
Siew Mei Hsia, a Diploma in Accounting student from APU, was announced as the highest individual scorer at the Diploma level.
In summary, APU students had an enriching experience participating in the quiz. It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with MICPA, IIUM students and faculty, and peers from other universities across Malaysia.
