APU's Fernandez Tan Jun Xian Honored With Prestigious IEM Book Prize Award


Fernandez Tan Jun Xian, a first-year Mechatronic Engineering student at Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU), has been awarded the prestigious IEM (The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia) Book Prize Award.


IEM President Prof Ir Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin (left) handed an inscribed book signed by him to Fernandez Tan Jun Xian, witnessed by APU School of Engineering (SoE) Assistant Professor Ir Eur Ing Ts Dr Lau Chee Yong (right).

This accolade recognises exceptional first-year engineering students for their academic excellence and active participation in engineering-related activities.

Accompanied by his mentor, Assistant Professor Ir Eur Ing Ts Dr Lau Chee Yong, Fernandez received the esteemed award at the IEM President's office on July 15, 2024. The award includes an inscribed book titled "The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia Book Prize for the Best First Year Engineering Student," signed by IEM President Professor Ir Dr Jeffrey Chiang Choong Luin.

The IEM Book Prize Award aims to inspire young engineering students to cultivate a habit of reading and utilising reliable sources of information. This emphasis on continuous learning and self-improvement aligns with the values of academic excellence and innovation.

Associate Professor Ir Ts Dr Siva Kumar Sivanesan, Head of the School of Engineering (SoE) at APU, praised Fernandez's well-rounded abilities, stating, "Fernandez excels not only in his academics but also in a wide range of activities. His exceptional skills and passion for engineering are truly remarkable for a first-year student."

Dr Lau, commended his drive and focus, saying, "Fernandez is a mature and driven individual who possesses a clear vision for his future. His determination and skillset are a testament to his potential as a successful engineer."

Fernandez's dedication to his studies, combined with his proactive involvement in extracurricular activities, exemplifies the qualities of a promising engineer. His achievement serves as an inspiration to his peers and a testament to the mentorship and guidance he has received at APU.
