APU’s School of Psychology Hosts Complimentary Health Talk and Spine Check
Good posture isn’t just about looking confident, it’s essential for both physical and mental health. Studies from renowned institutions like Harvard University highlight a strong connection between posture and mental wellness, showing that sitting up straight can alleviate symptoms of anxiety, stress, and depression.1
Recognising this link, the School of Psychology (SoP) at the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) recently held its annual Complimentary Health Talk and Spine Check in partnership with the Chiropractic First Group.
This event aimed to raise awareness about common spinal issues, promote preventative care, and highlight the benefits of regular spinal assessments, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being.
Led by SoP Associate Head Ms Vinorra Shaker and Psychology Lab Technician Ms Amirah Husna, the initiative focused on empowering students and APU community members with knowledge about the importance of spinal health and its impact on overall well-being.
On 25th October 2024, the day began with an engaging health talk by an experienced chiropractor from Chiropractic First Group. Attendees gained insights into spinal anatomy, the effects of poor posture, and the risks associated with modern sedentary lifestyles.
The session provided valuable preventive measures, such as ergonomic practices, targeted exercises, and lifestyle changes that can help reduce spinal health risks. The interactive format encouraged participants to ask questions and share their own experiences, building a supportive and informed community.
After the talk, participants were invited for complimentary spinal assessments. Chiropractors conducted individual evaluations, offering personalised feedback and tailored recommendations. This hands-on experience enabled attendees to understand their current spinal health and how it could be improved, creating a sense of empowerment and actionable insight.
APU’s Complimentary Health Talk and Spine Check was a resounding success, fulfilling its mission to educate and inspire the community towards better spinal and mental health practices.
