The School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on an enlightening industrial visit to Top Glove on 25th September 2024.
Under the guidance of Ms Harjinder Kaur (Senior Lecturer, SoMM at APU), the visit aimed to provide students with an immersive experience into the operations of a global industry leader in glove manufacturing.
Activity 1: Deep Dive into operations at Top Glove
The visit commenced with an informative corporate presentation delivered by Human Resource (HR) Management Executives at Top Glove:
Students were introduced to Top Glove’s history, mission, and the company’s remarkable journey to becoming a global leader in the industry.
On top of that, they learned about the company’s commitment to quality, innovation, and sustainability, which have been key to its success.
Activity 2: Interactive sessions at Top Glove
For the next phase of the visit, students participated in interactive sessions led by the HR team, where they explored career opportunities within Top Glove and learned about the skills necessary for thriving in today’s job market.
Through engaging quizzes based on the corporate presentation, students demonstrated their knowledge and were rewarded with Top Glove hand-carry bags.
These interactive sessions offered students valuable insights into recruitment processes and career paths, sparking interest in potential internships and roles within the company.
Activity 3: Factory 25 Research and Development Centre Tour
In the final phase of the visit, students were equipped with personal protective equipment as they embarked on an insightful tour of Top Glove’s research and development (R&D) and production facilities.
Led by Ms Shobana Devi, R&D Engineer at Top Glove, and Mr Pang Zhi Yuan, Production Engineer at Top Glove, the tour provided an in-depth look into the innovative processes behind glove production.
Students observed the production line in action, gaining exposure to the technology and machinery used to create high-quality medical and industrial gloves.
They also learned about the importance of material selection, design innovation, and rigorous testing methodologies in ensuring product quality.
Furthermore, the tour highlighted Top Glove’s commitment to safety, technological innovation, and quality control practices, which ensure compliance with international standards.
Student Perspectives
Bee Ching Long, a student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing Management with a specialism in Digital Marketing, found the visit eye-opening, appreciating the diverse range of glove products and the company’s emphasis on work-life balance.
Liew Boh Sern, a student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing Management with a specialism in Digital Marketing, was notably impressed by the rigorous quality control processes, the company’s attention to detail, and commitment to delivering high-quality products.
Mohammad Abbas, a student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing Management with a specialism in Digital Marketing, valued the insights gained into internship opportunities and the company’s focus on employee wellness, which enhanced his understanding of their commitment to balancing work and personal life.
Ng Chin Shian, a student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Marketing Management with a specialism in Digital Marketing, highlighted the crucial insights gained from observing the large-scale production of gloves and the company’s investment in R&D, emphasising their focus on sustainability and corporate responsibility.
Reflections on the Industrial Visit
Ms Harjinder expressed her gratitude to the Top Glove team for their invaluable support and the enriching knowledge shared during the industrial visit.
She emphasised that the industrial visit went beyond just an educational experience, as it empowered students by bridging classroom concepts with real-world applications, helping them understand the dynamics of the manufacturing industry.
