TWO teams from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) were placed in the recently concluded UTP-HAX National Hacking Competition 2014.

Team Yolo from APU, comprising Nicholas Ian Nonis, Choong Chih Xien and Goh Eu Gene, successfully “hacked” its way to the first runner-up spot, while Team EZ, made up of Ahmed Nabil Al-Eryani, Alexandr and Marat, were placed fourth.

For the competition, organised by Universiti Teknologi Petronas, participants were required to scan, test, hack, defend and use creative and constructive thinking to secure a system.

The teams underwent a month of intensive training by their mentors and seniors who were proud to witness the students demonstrating high levels of teamwork, creativity and innovation in the contest.

The teams received cash prizes of RM 3,000 and RM 1,000 respectively.

“It doesn’t matter which level you are at, how old you are, or where you come from. You stand a chance to win, as long as you have the spirit of winning,” said APU lecturer Khoo Li Jing who was also Team Yolo’s mentor.

A total of 37 teams from public and private universities participated in the competition which was held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas last month.
