Undergraduates and diploma students from the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) demonstrated remarkable courage, competence, and professionalism by competing against some of the nation’s brightest accounting talents at the 26th MICPA x CA ANZ Accountancy Week 2026.

Held at the campus of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) from 21 to 25 April 2026, the prestigious event was organised by the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA) in collaboration with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and UPM

The competition, held in conjunction with the event, gathered elite participants from public and private higher learning institutions nationwide, including the University of Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Monash University Malaysia, Multimedia University, Sunway College, and many others.

Adding to the School’s proud achievements, Muhammad Umair Moniaruth, a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance student from Mauritius, attained the overall highest individual score in the Degree category of the Accounting Students’ Quiz.

The competitions tested participants far beyond textbook knowledge. The Accounting Students’ Quiz challenged teams through rigorous written assessments covering Accounting and Auditing, Taxation, Company and Commercial Law, Commercial Awareness, and General Knowledge, spanning economics, politics, science, geography, sports, arts, and current affairs.

Meanwhile, the Management Simulation Game immersed participants in a dynamic business environment where teams managed simulated companies while making decisions related to Finance, Supply Chain Management, Marketing, Human Resources, and Entrepreneurship. Finalists were also required to present their strategies and solutions before the judges.

Led by Ms Phuah Eng Sze, Senior Lecturer, and Ms Ili Syahirah Kamaruzaman, Lecturer from SoAF, APU’s students distinguished themselves through resilience, teamwork, adaptability, and the confidence to challenge themselves beyond the classroom.

The off-campus competition also provided students with valuable exposure to professional networks and collaborative learning opportunities through engagements with MICPA, UPM, and peers from institutions across Malaysia.

Commenting on the School’s accomplishments, Professor Dr Chong Lee Lee said the achievement reflected the students’ willingness to step out of their comfort zones and benchmark their capabilities against high-performing peers nationwide.

“Competitions like these allow students to test not only their technical knowledge, but also their resilience, communication skills, teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure. Such experiences are essential in preparing them for a global workplace where they will compete alongside talented professionals from diverse backgrounds,” she remarked.
