Integrity remains the bedrock of any thriving academic institution, shaping students into accountable professionals and conscientious global citizens.

To reinforce these foundational values, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted #IntegrityDay2026, a month-long initiative aimed at embedding ethical conduct, transparency, and personal responsibility across its vibrant campus community.

Co-organized by the APU Angkatan Mahasiswa Anti Rasuah (AMAR) student chapter and the School of General Studies (SoGS), the campaign ran progressively from 1st August 2026, culminating in a grand showcase on 8th September 2026 at Auditorium 4.

Supported by official sponsor Dunkin’ Donuts, which contributed a generous 200-piece voucher sponsorship to engage participants, the initiative successfully bridged classroom learning with real-world moral principles.

The month leading up to the main event featured an array of interactive competitions and educational showcases designed to stimulate creative thinking around moral dilemmas.

Students actively engaged in an online e-competition testing fundamental knowledge of civic ethics and anti-corruption frameworks, alongside a short video competition exploring the subtle everyday temptations faced by youth.

Furthermore, an integrity-themed research poster exhibition displayed analytical perspectives on transparency and governance, while an anti-corruption interactive exhibition hosted at the Atrium featured engaging games and informative booths.

While the organizers initially targeted 100 APU Diploma students, the initiative resonated widely across the entire campus.

Registration records confirmed that over 100 Diploma and Degree students attended the flagship session, with hundreds more visiting the exhibition throughout the month.

The culminating session officially commenced with an opening address by APU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ts Dr Murali Raman, who expressed deep appreciation for the joint effort between AMAR, the SoGS, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

He highlighted that wisdom is identified as the key word of life, serving as the main guide in efforts to build a culture of living with integrity.

Professor Ts Dr Murali shared that embedding these practices within higher education strengthens integrity among academics and the community, thereby contributing to the formation of an ethical, responsible, and competitive generation equipped to navigate complex industries without compromising personal principles.

A major highlight of the event was an impactful sharing session delivered by Ms Zainab Abdul Malik, Senior Superintendent of the Community Education Division at MACC Headquarters.

Her talk, titled ‘One Choice, Big Consequences: Integrity in a World of Temptation’, offered a realistic look into systemic corruption and moral decision-making.

Recognizing that almost 80 per cent of the students who attended were international students interested in understanding the importance and impact of integrity, Ms Zainab thoughtfully delivered her session bilingually.

The question and answer session and song slot provided by Ms Zainab gave lasting memories to the participants, particularly as the song ‘Hall of Fame’ by The Script offered a powerful glimpse of the future that students should prepare for through strong character and perseverance.

Head of SoGS, Mr Ragunathan Ayyavoo, highlighted that embedding elements of integrity is essential for students’ future careers, as implementing such initiatives strengthens ethical values and professionalism, thereby contributing to the development of competitive and responsible graduates.

SoGS Senior Lecturer and APU AMAR Advisor, Dr Nurul Farhanah Mohd. Nasir, added that the initiative aimed to increase students’ awareness of the importance of integrity in academic and professional settings, while fostering a culture of honesty, accountability, and mutual respect within the university community.

She expressed her hope that small efforts, such as the competitions, the APU AMAR integrity campaign, and research sharing from special guests from the MACC, would leave a profound impact on students as they embrace the true meaning of integrity within the APU community.

For Project Director, Ryan Chong Jian Heng, steering the project in collaboration with APU AMAR and SoGS served as a transformative leadership experience that refined his soft skills in integrity values, leadership, communication, and problem-solving.

Ryan shared that Ms Zainab’s talk taught him the necessity of speaking the truth with courage, as integrity ultimately centers on choosing what is right despite conflicting personal desires.

By relating ethics to everyday academic situations, such as signing attendance for absent peers or seeking unearned marks, he realized that only strong integrity can ward off bad desires.

Kelly Kong, one of the participants, shared that the unpretentious presentation by the MACC figure provided valuable insights into how choices carry big consequences, noting that real-life experiences made students realize external temptations can only be overcome through practiced internal values.

She added that having a professional figure present directly in front of students creates a major impact that complements regular classroom lectures.

Similarly, Lee Wan Xuan, a Diploma student who attended the talk and participated as an exhibitor, shared that the program deepened her understanding of integrity by demonstrating that spreading awareness does not need to rely solely on formal sessions.

She observed that interactive activities, games, and authentic sharing sessions from experienced professionals like Ms Zainab made the learning process highly encouraging and memorable.

The event concluded with a walkthrough where Ms Zainab visited the student exhibition at the Atrium, interacting directly with the awareness booths and educational games prepared by the committee.

This initiative aligns closely with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which emphasizes equitable access to quality education and ensures that every learner is empowered with knowledge for sustainable development.

In an era where integrating artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in education presents both unique opportunities and complex challenges, safeguarding academic integrity has become paramount.

By synthesizing current educational realities, #IntegrityDay2026 highlights the importance of aligning innovative academic practices with strict ethical standards, ensuring that APU students gain quality education while developing into honest, accountable, and principled future professionals.
