Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Psychology Society organised Teacher’s Appreciation Day with the theme “Empowering Minds, Inspiring Futures.”
Led by Tahiyat Haque, President of APU Psychology Society, and supported by Ms Subashini Ganesan (Lecturer and Advisor of APU Psychology Society, School of Psychology at APU), the event served as a meaningful platform to celebrate and appreciate the lecturers and educators of the School of Psychology (SoP).
Additionally, the event reflected students’ commitment towards fostering a stronger and more connected academic community by creating opportunities for meaningful engagement that celebrated the significant role educators play in shaping students’ academic journeys, personal development, and future aspirations, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 3 and 4 (SDG 3 and SDG 4).
Forum: Exploring Education, Mentorship, and Student Development

One of the key highlights of the event was a forum, moderated by Siham Ahmed Abdirahman (Psychology student), which featured Ms Amirah Husna Mohamad Hata Abdullah (Lecturer cum Psychology Lab Technician, SoP at APU) and Dr TamilSelvan Ramis (Lecturer, SoP at APU).
Through thoughtful discussions and personal reflections, both speakers shared valuable insights into higher education, student growth, mentorship, and the evolving learning environment within universities.

- Emphasised the importance of self-discipline, time management, emotional resilience, and academic confidence in supporting student success.
- Discussed how encouragement, constructive feedback, and supportive educator-student relationships can motivate students and enhance their learning experience.
- Reflected on the role of mentorship in helping students identify their strengths, make informed academic and career decisions, and achieve personal and professional growth.

Key insights from Dr TamilSelvan:
- Discussed the importance of cultivating critical thinking, independent learning, and problem-solving skills to prepare students for an increasingly dynamic and knowledge-driven world.
- Reflected on how technology and changing educational environments have transformed student learning behaviours, highlighting the need for more engaging and interactive teaching approaches.
- Encouraged students to embrace opportunities beyond the classroom, including extracurricular involvement, leadership experiences, and collaborative learning.
- Emphasised the value of developing transferable skills such as communication, adaptability, teamwork, and emotional intelligence to support long-term personal and professional success.
Together, the discussions highlighted the multifaceted nature of student development, encouraging participants to embrace lifelong learning, cultivate essential future-ready skills, and make the most of opportunities both within and beyond the classroom, while recognising the lasting impact of educator guidance and mentorship.
Interactive Engagement: Fostering Student-Educator Connections
Beyond the forum, the event featured a series of interactive activities that brought students and lecturers together in a more relaxed and engaging setting.
Through appreciation segments, interactive games, and open interaction sessions, participants celebrated the dedication and contributions of educators within SoP, while engaging in informal and enjoyable exchanges.
These activities created opportunities for students and lecturers to interact beyond academic discussions, helping to build familiarity and strengthen rapport within the community in a more natural and personal way.
Empowering Future Generations through Appreciation and Learning
The event successfully recognised the contributions of educators, while fostering meaningful conversations on mentorship, academic growth, and student development.
By bringing together students and lecturers through thoughtful dialogue and engaging activities, it reinforced the importance of appreciation, connection, and lifelong learning within the wider APU community.
The APU Psychology Society extends its sincere appreciation to all APU lecturers for their unwavering commitment to nurturing students both academically and personally.
