Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) hosted the GBS Internship Fair 2026 on 25 June 2026 on its purpose-built campus at Technology Park Malaysia, bringing together more than 5,000 students from APU, other universities, and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the Central Region.

Organised by Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad (TalentCorp), a strategic think tank and agency under the Ministry of Human Resources, in collaboration with the Digital Global Business Services Council Malaysia (GBS Malaysia), the Contact Centre Association of Malaysia (CCAM), and APU, the event featured over 40 employers from the Global Business Services (GBS) sector, offering more than 500 internship opportunities.

The fair served as a strategic platform to strengthen Malaysia’s education-to-employment pathway, particularly in high-value areas such as finance and accounting, IT and digital, data analytics, process improvement, and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled services.

Connecting Students to Real Industry Opportunities

For students, the GBS Internship Fair 2026 was more than a recruitment event. It was a meaningful opportunity to explore career pathways, meet recruiters face-to-face, understand employer expectations, and build valuable industry connections.

Participating employers included Daythree Business Services, SLB, Experian Malaysia, Telecontinent, The Access Group, Transcosmos Malaysia, SCICOM and Standard Chartered Bank, many of which are involved in TalentCorp’s National Structured Internship Programme.

Across the booths and walkways of APU’s campus, students gained exposure to real workplace opportunities within organisations that support global business operations, multinational clients and fast-evolving digital services. The fair helped students see how their academic learning could translate into future roles in high-growth sectors.

In his welcoming speech, Datuk Parmjit emphasised that the true measure of a university’s success lies not only in rankings, research output or institutional accolades, but in the outcomes achieved by its students.

While these achievements remain important, he noted that they should never overshadow the core purpose of higher education — to nurture competent, capable graduates who are well prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.

“The greatest achievement of a university is seeing its graduates secure rewarding opportunities, build meaningful careers and make their families proud. When our students succeed, their families succeed alongside them, and that is the impact higher education should strive to create,” said Datuk Parmjit.

“At APU, we define our client as the industry. The daily activities we undertake are driven by one key purpose — to supply relevant and capable talent to the industry. Working closely with industry and co-hosting events such as this is part of our DNA,” he added.

Strengthening Pathways for Malaysia’s Future Workforce

Echoing this commitment, Ms Biruntha said she was encouraged by the strong turnout, which reflected a shared commitment among government, universities, TVET institutions and employers to prepare Malaysia’s future workforce.

“At TalentCorp, we will continue working with industry, academia and government to strengthen these pathways through various initiatives, including the National Structured Internship Programme (MySIP), the Industrial Training Placement Matching Grant for SMEs and start-ups (LiKES), and the implementation of the 1:3 Industrial Training Policy,” she said.

MySIP, LiKES, and MyNext are core components of TalentCorp’s nationwide internship ecosystem. These initiatives provide incentives for employers and upskill students into industry-ready graduates.

She added that these initiatives aim to expand access to quality internship placements and provide students with relevant workplace exposure that supports their transition into employment.

Earlier, Mr Raymond Davadass shared that the GBS Internship Fair 2026 was not merely about providing internship placements but represented a strategic investment in developing the future talent pipeline for Malaysia’s GBS industry.

“Many of the internship opportunities you will explore today are with organisations that support some of the world’s largest multinational companies. As interns and future professionals, you may find yourselves contributing to the operations of leading technology companies, global airlines, internationally recognised financial institutions, healthcare organisations, consumer brands and even some of the world’s largest gaming companies,” he told students and participants.

These included “Career Support”, which offered résumé screening and one-on-one career advisory sessions; “Skill Building”, which featured employability workshops, industry sharing sessions and dedicated career talks; as well as the “Lucky Draw Challenge”, an interactive passport and stamp-collection activity where students completed tasks to win gadgets and vouchers.

Together, these activities helped students sharpen their employability skills, gain greater confidence in presenting themselves to employers, and understand how to navigate internship and career opportunities more strategically.

Partnerships that Create National Impact

Through the GBS Internship Fair 2026, APU reaffirmed its role as a university that actively connects education with industry needs. Its strategic partnership with TalentCorp, GBS Malaysia, CCAM and participating employers has widened the career horizons of students while contributing to Malaysia’s broader talent development agenda.

By opening its campus as a platform where government, industry, employers and students converge, APU continues to demonstrate how purposeful collaboration can create impact beyond the classroom — nurturing students' potential, enhancing their employability, and developing graduates equipped to drive Malaysia's future economic growth.
