Recently, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Career Centre organised the Career Exploration Programme (CEP) Penang 2026; a three-day experiential learning journey that combined industry visits, cultural exploration, and meaningful shared experiences.
Gathering students from diverse academic backgrounds, ranging from Foundation to Master’s programmes, the programme provided a platform for them to gain valuable insights into professional environments, explore potential career pathways, and immerse themselves in Penang’s unique cultural heritage through meaningful experiences beyond the classroom.
Exploring Industry Practices and Career Pathways

As part of the programme, students visited two leading multinational companies; MKS Instruments and SanDisk, where they gained first-hand exposure to real-world business operations, advanced manufacturing processes, and the technologies driving today’s global semiconductor and data storage industries.
Through these visits, students developed a deeper understanding of workplace culture, operational excellence, innovation, and the importance of continuous improvement within highly competitive industries.
They also explored various career pathways across engineering, technology, manufacturing, business operations, and corporate functions, allowing them to see how their academic knowledge and skills can be applied in professional environments.

Beyond gaining technical insights, students also had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals and APU alumni currently working in the sector.
These interactions provided valuable perspectives on career progression, professional development, workplace expectations, and the skills needed to thrive in an evolving employment landscape, further enhancing their understanding of future career opportunities.
Experiencing Penang’s Heritage and Local Charm

Complementing the industry visits, students also experienced Penang’s rich cultural heritage through visits to several of the island’s iconic attractions and by sampling its renowned local cuisine.
These experiences allowed students to appreciate the unique character of one of Malaysia’s most vibrant cultural destinations, while strengthening the bonds formed throughout the programme.

The cultural component added another dimension to the learning journey by encouraging students to step outside their familiar environments, engage with different communities, and develop a broader appreciation of Malaysia’s diverse heritage.

Strengthening Career Readiness through Experiential learning
CEP Penang 2026 reflects APU’s continued commitment to enhancing graduate employability by creating meaningful opportunities for students to engage with industry, gain practical exposure to professional environments, and broaden their perspectives through cultural experiences.
Dr Sryee Inthran Meyappan, Director of Industry Engagement (Talent), Career Centre and Corporate Training at APU, highlighted that the programme enabled students to connect academic learning with real-world experiences, while developing a deeper understanding of workplace expectations, industry practices, and the professional competencies valued by employers.
