Students at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) can now access Kiro; an agentic AI-powered software development tool from Amazon Web Services (AWS), at no cost for one full year under the Kiro for Students programme.

APU is the only university in Malaysia among 132 universities across 18 countries selected for the global student initiative, which provides eligible university students with access to Kiro’s advanced AI-powered development capabilities, as they learn, experiment, and build software.

Supporting Students to Build with AI

Through the programme, eligible APU students receive 1,000 Kiro credits each month; giving them access to advanced AI-powered capabilities, as they explore software development and bring their ideas to life.

The student offering also includes access to advanced AI models and Kiro Web; providing students with greater flexibility to develop, test, and refine their projects. 

Kiro uses a spec-driven development approach; enabling students to define requirements, and design decisions and implementation steps before generating and refining code.

By working through these stages, students can take a more active role in shaping their projects, identifying gaps in their ideas, reviewing AI-generated outputs, and ensuring that the resulting software aligns with their intended goals.

For APU students studying Software Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Data Science, Cybersecurity, and other technology-related disciplines, this access can complement their learning and project work.

Whether developing academic projects, participating in hackathons, creating prototypes, or pursuing independent projects, students can explore how AI can support different stages of software development, while further developing their technical and problem-solving skills.

Preparing Students for an AI-Driven future

As APU joins the global network of universities participating in the Kiro for Students programme, the initiative provides students with another platform to explore, experiment, and build, as they prepare for future opportunities in technology and beyond.
