APU Lecturer Receives AIM Data Science Faculty Excellence Award 2021

We are proud to share that our own Mr Mafas Raheem, Lecturer with the School of Computing, was recently announced as the recipient of the Outstanding Graduate Student Teaching Award, in conjunction with SkillUp 2021, organised by Analytics India Magazine (AIM).

SkillUp 2021 is India’s largest and first-of-its-kind virtual education fair exclusively for Data Science and AI enthusiasts which was held 22 & 23 April 2021. This award recognises excellence and dedication in education in these fields, and Mafas received the award during a virtual ceremony held during the fair.

Nominees for this award are subjected to a stringent evaluation process by an international committee, which reviewed nominees’ contributions towards teaching, research and publications in data science, analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.

What makes this achievement more special the fact that Mafas was nominated for this award by his former students from APU, with whom he had clearly made a lasting impact.

This achievement is indeed very significant, as Mafas is himself an alumnus of APU. He had originally come to Malaysia from Sri Lanka a few years ago to join us to further his studies among the pioneer batches of students in our Master of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics. Having obtained top results for his Master's Degree, Mafas then followed his lifelong passion as an educator to join APU’s School of Computing as a Lecturer.

Mafas is truly thrilled by this achievement, which provides him with the impetus and motivation to further enhance his contributions to always go the extra mile in guiding his students at all levels with full dedication and commitment.

Heartiest Congratulations to Mr Mafas Raheem. His achievements are an inspiration to the entire APU community.
