Triple Awards @ The IUCEL 2021 Virtual Competition!

3 Teams from The School of Computing & Technology Bagged 1 Gold and 2 Silvers

On 15 June 2021, 3 teams from the School of Computing & Technology, participated in the Invention, Innovation & Design on e-Learning (IIDEL) category of the International University Carnival on E-Learning (IUCEL) 2021 Virtual Competition and emerged with a Gold Medal and two Silver Medal awards for their e-learning projects. The 3 teams competed against 200 teams from various higher learning institutions.

Gold Medal Award winner Ahmed Ali Ahmed Gubran’s project EHLS is an active e-learning hacking platform that provides both theoretical and practical hacking experience with integrated Kali Linux terminal. He was mentored by Dr Julia Juremi and Ts Dr Vinothini and has now graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Information Technology with a specialism in Information System Security.

Silver Medals winners comprised 2 APU teams. Hiu Wen Xuan, Ooi Zhen Wei, and Lee Wei Da’s project, Hans Chatbot an H5N1 Doctor Assistant for Everyone, incorporates a chatbot expert system that is used to educate the general public about the flu virus (H5N1). The team was mentored by Ts Dr Vinothini. Hiu, Ooi and Lee have just completed their Diploma in Information and Communication Technology specialist in Data Informatics.

Raja Nurul Nasuha Raja Azman Shah’s project, Engaging Children with Educational Content via Gamification, features design elements of games, such as the classic board game, “Snakes and Ladders”, to boost student engagement. Mentor for this project was Mr Mohamad Firdaus Che Abdul Rani. Raja Nurul completed her BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering in November 2020.

Hosted by Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) with the theme of "Leading Innovation Towards Digitalized Community", this competition catered for academics and students of higher learning institutions to showcase their innovative ideas/product/innovation, including learning analytics, virtual/augmented reality, e-learning pedagogy/approach, multimedia tools, computer applications, mobile applications, and systems and other related areas.

IUCEL acts as a platform to promote, explore, and share best practices and global expertise in e-Learning applications at all levels of learning institutions from all over the world.
