APU Students Go On A Trip In "Getting To Know You"

A group outing is always an ideal way to unwind and de-stress, it helps us to take a break from ordinary routine and get recharged. On 3rd February, during the long Chinese New Year break, APU students were treated to a lovely day trip to Taman Botanical Perdana Kuala Lumpur.

As it serves as a tourist attraction of Kuala Lumpur’s first large-scale recreational park, 44 international students participated in this trip, to get to know more about this place of refuge from hustle and bustle of the city.

The visiting group kicked off the day trip with an ice-breaking, followed by team-building games. During the lunch break, students spared their time for a photography opportunity, to capture the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Soon after that, they reassembled and adjourned for the next agenda – to tour around the National Monument. To enable them to know more about Malaysia, students were provided with historical facts and information by the facilitators. This sparked their interest to know more about the local history, culture and society.

This trip was initiated by Ms Emily Octavia Mathius, Counsellor, through Student Affairs. Joined in were Dr Sarvinder Kaur, the Head of Student Affairs; and Ms Hashanna Abdul Halim, Manager of Student Affairs.

“The objective of this pilot project was to take care of students’ mental wellbeing by engaging and supporting them while they are far away from their home country,” said Ms Emily.

“We tried our very best to provide an avenue for students to get to know their peers and provided a platform for team building. By fostering friendship, connectivity and community spirits amongst students, we hope it will eventually build a stronger sense of belonging within APU’s community,” added Ms Hashanna.

Before they called it a day, the participants of this day trip gave very positive feedback and expressed their wish for participating in similar events in the near future.

“I enjoyed the outing, and I think this is a fun activity that should be done continuously in future,” said Chow Siet Yam Dylan Ming Foung, a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechatronic Engineering student.
