A group of 24 students from the Bachelor in Banking and Finance (FinTech) and the BSc in IT (FinTech) programmes at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on an informative journey as they participated in an insightful industrial visit to Tokenize Malaysia, a regulated cryptocurrency exchange.
Led by Ms. Ng Hui Chen (3rd from left, front row) and accompanied by Dr. Meera Eeswaran (5th from left, front row), banking & finance and IT students who specialise in FinTech participated in an industrial trip to Tokenize Malaysia.
The visit, which took place on 17th May 2023 at the TSLAW Tower, aimed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the operations, regulatory compliance, and career opportunities within the crypto industry.
Tokenize Malaysia, a Recognised Market Operator (RMO) regulated by the Securities Commission of Malaysia and operates under the umbrella of Kenaga Investment Bank Berhad, has been leading the way in fostering innovation and compliance within the crypto space.
During the 2-hour 30-minute visit, the students were warmly welcomed and given a refreshing start to the day. They were then presented with informative talks on the basics of Blockchain and its applications, as well as the crucial regulatory requirements for licensed crypto exchanges in Malaysia, such as anti-money laundering (AML) and know-your-customer (KYC) regulations.
A significant highlight of the visit was the Q&A and networking session with the knowledgeable staff at Tokenize Malaysia. Students had the opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals, gaining valuable insights into the intricacies of crypto exchange regulations and exploring potential career paths within the organisation.
The industrial visit yielded numerous key learnings and benefits for the participants. By witnessing the exchange's day-to-day operations, students acquired practical knowledge that complemented their academic understanding of the crypto industry.
The visit emphasized the paramount importance of regulatory compliance in upholding transparency and security within the digital asset landscape, further enhancing the students' appreciation for risk management strategies.
Moreover, the interactive session with industry professionals opened new horizons for the students, kindling their entrepreneurial spirit and sparking an interest in pursuing careers within the dynamic and rapidly evolving crypto industry.
Ms. Ng Hui Chen, Senior Lecturer from the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF), as the lead lecturer for this industrial visit, expressed her enthusiasm for the students' engagement during the visit.
"This experience has undoubtedly enriched our students' perspectives on cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Witnessing the operational aspects of a regulated crypto exchange has been invaluable in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world applications," said Ms. Ng.
Besides, Senior Lecturer from SAF, Dr. Meera Eeswaran, also participated in this trip as the accompanying lecturer.
In conclusion, the industrial visit to Tokenize Malaysia underscored the critical role such industrial engagements play in preparing APU students’ employability for the future. APU has a track record of a 100% student employability rate.
