Industry-Academia Alliance Enhances Robotics and Automation Skills & Graduate Employability


The partnership will enable APU’s advanced mechatronics engineering capabilities to deliver future robotics and automation solutions.

KEENON Robotics Co. Ltd., an artificial intelligence (AI) enterprise committed to providing intelligent unmanned delivery solutions for global enterprises, has announced a strategic partnership with the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) to drive academia, technology, and industry-sharing in order to reshape the future of robotics and automation.

Through their Malaysian local representative and distributor, Diverse Supply Chain (DSC) Sdn. Bhd. which holds the exclusive distribution of service robots for Malaysia territory and supply for various health and wellness products for both local and overseas has signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 4th August 2023 at APU state-of-the-art campus in Kuala Lumpur.

The MoU was signed by DSC Sdn. Bhd. Managing Director Mr. Kayden Ong and APU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Kuan witnessed by APU School of Engineering (SoE) Diploma Mechatronic Engineering Programme Leader Ir. Ts. Dr. Alexander Chee Hon Cheong and DSC Sdn. Bhd. Operation Manager Ms. Tam Lee Yung.

Dr. Sathish Kumar Selva Perumal, APU SoE Internship Coordinator Ir. Eur. Ing. Ts. Dr. Lau Chee Yong, and APU SoE Bachelor Mechatronic Engineering Programme Leader Ir. Ts. Dr. Yvette Shaan-Li Susiapan also attended the MoU ceremony.

Representatives from both organisations were satisfied with the discussions that took place before the MoU was signed.

“KEENON Robotics and DSC Sdn. Bhd. are excited to partner with APU to drive and adapt to the new normal in the future of robotics and automation.

“Our collaboration will enable joint research collaboration projects between KEENON Robotics/DSC Sdn. Bhd., SoE academician and students,” said Mr. Kayden.

At the same time, the MoU establishes internship opportunities for APU students at DSC Sdn. Bhd., allowing them to gain practical experience in the field of robotics and automation.

“The joint expertise will be a catalyst for curriculum enhancement of robotics related courses to benefit our (APU) mechatronic engineering students and meet critical industry talent requirements,” said Prof. Dr. Ho.

This collaborative effort is designed to provide students with an education that is current with industry trends, as well as the tools and information they need to excel in a fast-paced professional world.
