APU Merdeka Fiesta 2023: An Extravaganza Celebration of Unity and Diversity

Over 3,000 people from all walks of life, including students, adults, senior citizens, parents, and people with disabilities, gathered to celebrate the 5 KM APU Merdeka Fiesta Unity Run, APU Merdeka Unity Concert, APU Merdeka Food Fiesta, and APU Merdeka Fun & Joy.

On 9th September 2023, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) renowned campus in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur was transformed into a sea of colours and festivities as the APU Merdeka Fiesta 2023 kicked off.

This annual event, organised by the APU Sekretariat Rukun Negara (SRN) club under the School of General Studies (SoGS) in collaboration with the Jabatan Perpaduan Negara Dan Integrasi Nasional Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur (JPNINWPKL), to celebrate Malaysia’s Independence Day and showcase the country’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.

Over 3,000 people from all walks of life, including APU students and students from different universities, adults, senior citizens, parents, and people with disabilities, gathered to enjoy the festivities.

The day began with the APU Merdeka Fiesta Unity Run, a competitive 5-kilometre run with special categories for special needs children, encouraging everyone to participate in the celebration and rewarding medals, certificates, and cash prizes to all winners.

Following the run, the APU Merdeka Unity Concert took the stage, showcasing a vibrant tapestry of Malaysian culture through captivating performances by APU clubs and invited guests.

From traditional Malay dances and songs to modern Chinese pop music, to rhythms and melodies in Indian music there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Meanwhile, the APU Merdeka Food Fiesta offered a delectable journey into Malaysia’s culinary delights.

With distinct food areas for Malay, Chinese, and Indian fare, there was something to tantalize everyone’s taste buds. Senior citizens and children from orphanages received complimentary coupons, ensuring that everyone could savour the delicious offerings.

To round out the day, the APU Merdeka Fiesta Fun & Joy provided an exciting and engaging platform for visitors of all ages, including traditional games and game booths as well as obstacle courses, an escape room, and a haunted house.

These activities were designed to foster teamwork, appreciation of Malaysian culture, and a sense of community spirit.

The APU Merdeka Fiesta 2023 was a resounding success, bringing together people from all walks of life to celebrate Malaysia’s Independence Day and learn more about the country’s rich cultural heritage.

It was a truly memorable event that showcased the spirit of unity and diversity that makes Malaysia so special.
