APU Students Gain Real-world Exposure and Learn Sustainability Practices at Ajinomoto

Ajinomoto Education Tour is more than just seasoning. This tour transcended product labels, revealing Ajinomoto’s dedication to sustainable practices, environmental responsibility, and consumer well-being.

A total of 20 Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation (APU) Marketing Management and Digital Marketing students went on educational tour to Ajinomoto Malaysia Berhad. (AMB) Manufacturing at Bandar Enstek, Negeri Sembilan on 15th November 2023.

The tour was organised by the School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) to expose students to real-world production operations, industrial environment, and promote environmental sustainability.

Their visit was not only educational, but also an infusion of knowledge and enjoyment as they witnessed the precise manufacturing process of Ajinomoto seasoning from sugarcane and tapioca to dazzling crystals.

AMB’s state-of-the-art factory is certified as a green factory with prestigious Silver status from the Green Building Index (GBI), a certification that is a sought-after recognition of a building’s environmentally responsible features.

This tour is more than just seasoning education, students went beyond product labels to learn about Ajinomoto’s commitment to sustainable practices, environmental responsibility, and customer well-being.

Students receive a deep grasp of Ajinomoto’s history, production processes, and corporate culture as they learn beyond the classroom through engaging presentations, interactive displays, and an entertaining tour guided by Uncle Beh.

The opportunity to roll up their sleeves and don aprons to produce their own Ajinomoto-infused fried rice, enjoying the distinctive flavours and aromas that accentuate ordinary dishes, instilled a deep appreciation for their commitment to excellence.

This practical application solidified their theoretical knowledge, translating it into a wonderful sensory experience.

According to the tour’s organiser, Ms. Harjinder Kaur Balbir Singh, “This visit provided an enriching experience for our students, aligning with outdoor adventure education and enhancing their understanding of the complexities involved in the food and biotechnology industry.”

Zack Ng Chun Ket, a Marketing Management specialism in Digital Marketing student, said, “Crafting fried rice with Ajinomoto spices was an invaluable hands-on experience, heightening our sensory perception and offering a genuine taste of its culinary allure.”

“Ajinomoto’s emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility truly impressed me,” said Sree Pomodh Pillai Devindran, a Marketing Management specialism in Digital Marketing student.

“Their dedication to food safety, research and development; and the production of healthy goods is perfectly aligned with their ‘Eat Well, Live Well’ slogan.”

“We gained a deeper understanding behind MSG production and appreciate the opportunity to learn from the experts. Thank you for a lovely visit, Ajinomoto!,” said Celine Cecilia, Marketing Management specialism in Digital Marketing student.

This educational tour was more than just a field trip; it was a synthesis of learning, sustainability, and a renewed appreciation for AMB’s charm.

The Ajinomoto experience sparked a passion for flavour, creativity, and responsible manufacturing in these APU students, leaving a lasting taste of knowledge and inspiration.
