APU ASC Unlock the Secrets of Actuarial Science at AIA Bhd.

APU actuarial prodigy goes beyond textbooks and lectures with hands-on experience that will leave them inspired and informed, while also discovering how their passion for numbers and risk management can translate into a rewarding career in the actuarial field.

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Actuarial Science Club (ASC) visited American International Assurance Berhad. (AIA Bhd.) on 18 December 2023, for the ‘Insightful Expedition: Actuarial Exploration’ at AIA Bhd. iconic headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The purpose of the visit is to give students valuable experience, including unique insights into the operations of one of the nation’s leading insurance giants, which offers protection, health, personal accident, employee benefits, general insurance, mortgage, retirement, and family takaful products.

By embarking on a day of discovery at AIA Bhd., ASC members immerse themselves in the rich history, mission, and lively culture of AIA Malaysia, meet the masterminds, and learn from a dynamic panel discussion including respected speakers from various AIA departments.

From pricing and product development to risk management and beyond, they delve into the diverse facets of this fascinating industry.

With the interactive Q&A sessions with the speakers, they clear their doubts, exchange ideas, and gain a deeper understanding of the actuarial field’s exciting opportunities and challenges.

At the same time, they network like pros by expanding their professional horizons during the networking session, engaging with AIA employees and interns, creating valuable connections, and learning about various career options inside the organisation.

The day reached its pinnacle with an illuminating company tour guided by AIA’s HR team. They witness first-hand the inner workings of this dynamic organization and see where actuarial skills could make a real impact.

APU ASC extends heartfelt gratitude to AIA Bhd. for providing this incredible opportunity to APU students — the majority of whom are from the School of Mathematics, Actuarial and Quantitative Studies (SoMAQS).
