Building a Brighter Tomorrow by Empowering Youth to Lead

Hearts over hustle, beyond the booths of Venture Day; APU students inspired hope for underprivileged children by investing in their dreams and building bridges of kindness.

Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) incorporates Venture Day not only to promote an entrepreneurial culture in its student community but also to provide a platform for students to give back to charity.

This noble gesture exemplifies the community-driven nature of APU Venture Day’s positive impact and its dedication to giving back to society.

Six APU Club and Society members — Enterprise Club (e-Club), Operation Smile Club (OSC), Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Club (APUBCC), Integrated Sustainability and Urban Creativity Centre (ISUC Student Chapter), Music Club, and Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) — pledged to donate RM10,000 to a charitable cause last year in June 2023, spearheaded by the e-Club.

As part of their commitment to turn profits into purpose, they were able to collect the funds and donate to Selangor Dar Asnaf Al-Fateeh Al-Idrisiah, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) in charge of administering and supervising the Orphanage and Asnaf Ulu Yam, Selangor homes.

Their homes are welfare homes with the concept of an agricultural Tahfiz Madrasah that provides free housing to orphans and asnaf children aged 7 to 18 years old.

They made a powerful decision to support others in need via the kindness of APU student-led initiatives, and they chose Dar Asnaf Al-Fateeh Al-Idrisiah as the recipient.

The donation is delivered to Ustaz Muhammad Hafiz Tajudin, Principal of Selangor Dar Asnaf Al-Fateeh Al-Idrisiah, by Prof. Dr. Angelina Yee, APU Director of Research and Enterprise/Club’s Lead Advisor, and Ms. Aida Zamnah Zainal Abidin, APU Senior Lecturer/APU Malay Cultural Society (AMCS) Advisor.

Among the donated items for the Dar Asnaf Al-Fateeh Al-Idrisiah Tahfiz Madrasah’s ICT centre were PCs and printers.

According to Ustaz Muhammad Hafiz, APU entered the orphanage not only with a cheque but also with an open heart and a shared vision.

“APU students not only empower their peers but also reach out to those in need to foster the dreams of children facing adversity and hope in the eyes of every child present.

“This was not just a one-time act of charity; it was an investment in the future, a bridge built between two worlds through the shared language of technology and compassion,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Angelina added that the RM10,000 they donated was more than simply a donation, it represented a promise and the boundless opportunities that only digital literacy can unlock.

“This goodwill gesture, rooted in APU’s philosophy of giving back to the community, was greatly appreciated by the orphanage.

“The donation is expected to make a significant impact, particularly in technological education for children, aligning well with APU’s vision of empowering young minds with knowledge and skills,” she said.

APU is entering a new chapter where education meets social responsibility, becoming a beacon for its students and any institution that dares to dream of a future where success is measured not only in profits but in the smiles, it leaves behind.

Venture Day is an annual event established at APU to promote the entrepreneurial culture among the student community. Aside from the workshop sessions, Venture Day included a variety of engaging activities, including student clubs showing their talents through performances, entertaining games, captivating booths, lucky draws, and, most importantly, helping students become the next generation of entrepreneurs.
