APU International Women's Week 2024
Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) International Women’s Week 2024, organised by APU DigitGal, proved to be an inspiring showcase of empowerment, education, and advocacy.
From March 5th to 8th, the APU community came together to celebrate International Women's Day, honouring the resilience and strength of women from diverse backgrounds and nationalities.
The week-long series of events and activities, aligned with the latest Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aimed at forging a path towards a brighter and more equal future.
Professor Dr Abtar Darshan Singh and Ms Meera Eeswaran, Team Leads of APU DigitGal, along with a dedicated organising committee, orchestrated a meaningful programme supported by partners such as De Montfort University (DMU) and PayNet Malaysia, alongside esteemed guest speakers from various industries.
The festivities commenced on March 5th with the Girls in Financial Technology (GIFT) team’s event, led by Ms Kavitha Arunasalam, Senior Lecturer at the School of Accounting and Finance (SoAF). The session explored 'Women in Digital Accounting and Finance,' featuring esteemed speakers Ms Shirley Tey from BDO Malaysia and Ms Azreena Rastom from EY Consulting. Attendees gained insights into the digital transformation of finance and accounting, understanding its impact on women professionals.
Continuing the momentum, the 'Women In Health' seminar on the same day, spearheaded by Ms T. Tulasi Sathyabama Appalasamy from the School of Foundation Studies (SoF), addressed crucial health issues. Collaborations with organisations such as MMICARE and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia provided attendees with essential knowledge on preventive healthcare and wellness practices.

On March 8th, International Women's Day, APU's campus buzzed with energy as 25 booths showcasing women-led businesses and charities for marginalised groups were set up. Led by Ms Cynthia Mala Paul Dorairaj from the School of Business (SoB), this event emphasised economic empowerment and community support for autistic and refugee women.
The day culminated with impactful sessions like Ladies in Action (LIA)’s Speed Mentoring and the APU & DMU International Women Discourse, guided by Ms Jasminder Kaur Harbindar Jeet Singh, Senior Lecturer of SoB. These sessions, spearheaded by PayNet and DMU, highlighted the importance of women's leadership and their roles in entrepreneurship, sustainability, and technology.
The discourse featured esteemed panellists including representatives from DMU UK and PayNet Malaysia, sharing expertise on financial literacy, management, and innovation. This collaborative effort underscored the global commitment to advancing gender equality and fostering inclusive communities.
