Empowering Malaysian Engineering: Two APU Academicians Elected to IMechE Committees


Ir. Ts. Dr. Alexander Chee Hon Cheong and Ir. Ts. Dr. Yvette Shaan-Li Susiapan, have been elected to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Malaysia Committees, bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to the table.

Buckle up, engineering enthusiasts! We have exciting news from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Engineering (SoE).

Two of our esteemed academic staff members, Ir. Ts. Dr. Alexander Chee Hon Cheong and Ir. Ts. Dr. Yvette Shaan-Li Susiapan has been elected to serve on the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Malaysia Committees!

IMechE, a London-based global powerhouse founded in 1847, is a formidable presence with more than 115,000 members worldwide.

Through student chapters, awards, and strategic initiatives, they are fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Ir. Ts. Dr. Alexander is the Programme Leader for the Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, while Ir. Ts. Dr. Yvette leads the Transnational Education Programmes and Bachelor’s Programme in Mechatronic Engineering at SoE.

Both are engaged in the field of Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering, which blends mechanical, electrical, and computer engineering.

“IMechE committees are at the forefront of shaping the future of engineering, and Dr. Alexander and Dr. Yvette’s appointments ensure fresh perspectives and essential expertise are brought to the table,” said Prof. Ir. Eur. Ing. Ts. Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, APU’s Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer and IMechE’s International Strategic Board Vice-Chair.


The IMechE Malaysia Committees hold annual elections to select new members who actively contribute to the institution’s strategic direction.

These committees play a crucial role in advancing mechanical engineering within Malaysia.

“With Dr. Alexander and Dr. Yvette on board, APU’s connection to this network will be even stronger, propelling advancements in the field and accelerating breakthroughs in mechanical engineering.
