APU Squash Team Shine with Two Medals at MASISWA-TARUMT Varsity Squash Open 2024


In a display of talent and dedication, Data Informatics student Pradeep Dev Prakash secured the Bronze Medal in the Men’s Individual Division 1 category, while Foundation in Computing student Alston Lim Zheng Heng added to APU’s success by clinching the silver medal in Division 1 plate category.

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Squash Club enjoyed a successful outing at the recent MASISWA-TARUMT Varsity Squash Open 2024.

The MASISWA-TARUMT Varsity Squash Open 2024 brought together student athletes from a prestigious list of universities, including TARUMT, UNITEN, UTAR, IMU, Universiti Teknologi Brunei, UKM, UTP, UUM, GMI, UiTM, UPM, UPSI, Quest International University, MMU, Universitas Pasundan, Nilai University, INTI International University, Indonesia University of Education, and BAC.

The strong competition elevated the level of play and provided a valuable experience for all participants.

The tournament, which featured participation from universities across Malaysia and neighbouring countries, saw APU athletes secure top-3 ranking in the Men’s Individual Division 1 category and in the Division 1 plate category.

Data Informatics student, Pradeep Dev Prakash delivered a stellar performance, clinching the bronze medal in the Men’s Individual Division 1 category.

His dedication and skill were on full display as he battled his way through the competition.

Adding to APU’s success, Alston Lim Zheng Heng, Foundation in Computing student demonstrated his talent by securing the silver medal in the highly competitive Men’s Individual Division 1 plate category.

A High-Caliber Tournament

Pradeep who trains at the National Squash Centre, Jalan Duta, Kuala Lumpur made his debut at this university tournament.

He has previously participated in various tournaments such as the RedTone KL Junior Open 2023, CMS Borneo Junior Open 2023, Penang Malaysia Junior Open 2023, and National Junior Championships 2024.

“I have been playing squash for 14 years since I began at age 5, and I particularly relished the MASISWA-TARUMT Varsity Squash Open 2024,” he expressed.

“I enjoyed this competition and will participate in more tournaments in the future.”

Meanwhile, Alston who trains at the Subang Lakeview Club, claims that “this competition is more difficult with more skilled opponents than the National Schools Sports Council (MSSM) tournaments I participated in.”

“Most of the players are older than me and they have more experience playing at the university level.”

Alston has also competed in the Sarawak Games (SUKSAR), Borneo Junior Open, CIMB Open, National Junior Open, and Brunei Junior Open.
