Lessons in sustainability and quality control at leading mineral water company Spritzer

A group of APU SoMM students visited Spritzer Berhad. to learn about their complete process, from water source in the rainforest to bottling and packaging, and were impressed by the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability.

A group of 36 students from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation’s (APU) School of Marketing and Management (SoMM) recently went deep into a pristine 400-acre tropical rainforest to find a hidden supply of crystal-clear water.

They went to Spritzer Berhad., Malaysia’s leading bottled water group located in Taiping, Perak, which has been in business since 1989.

They manufacture, distribute, promote, and sell their full product range, which includes natural mineral water and non-carbonated fruit flavoured drinks.

Led by Ms. Harjinder Kaur, these students from varied backgrounds, including marketing, digital marketing, and human resource management, embarked on a journey to discover the secrets of Spritzer.

The visit began with a warm greeting from the Spritzer team, led by Ms Eng Qi Qian (Spritzer’s Event and Promotions Executive), who explained the company’s dedication to excellence and sustainability.

Following a brief history of Spritzer, the students were led on a guided tour of Eco Park’s state-of-the-art bottling factory and natural spring, where they witnessed the entire process from water purification, bottling to packaging.

It was an eye-opening experience to witness the entire process from the source in the heart of the rainforest to the finished product on store shelves, dispelling the idea that bottled water is a simple process.

But Spritzer’s commitment goes beyond just purity. The students were amazed by the company’s pioneering sustainable practices. From using solar energy to harvesting rainwater, Spritzer is a champion for environmental responsibility.

The students even learned about Spritzer’s global reach, where their premium mineral water transforms into ‘Acillis’ for health-conscious consumers in China and the UK.

The students actively participated in a Q&A session, grilling Spritzer’s representatives about everything from water sourcing to the challenges of maintaining sustainability in a competitive market.

“It was a stimulating exchange that highlighted the importance of efficiency, quality control, and corporate responsibility in protecting our planet,” said Ahmed El Bachir El Mouden, and Nuralwani Ahmad Rozzlan Sani.

The day ended with the students brimming with newfound knowledge and appreciation.

They expressed their awe at Spritzer’s meticulous production processes, commitment to quality, and innovative eco-friendly practices.

“This industrial visit was not just about bottled water; it was a glimpse into the future of sustainable business practices where they used recycled materials and trying to reduce their carbon footprint,” said Tan Xin Yi, and Liang Mei Yee.

The APU students left not only with a deeper understanding of the industry but also inspired to make a positive impact on the environment in their future endeavors.

So, the next time you reach for a bottle of Spritzer or Acillis, remember the incredible journey it took to get there ― a journey that prioritizes purity, sustainability, and exploration!
