APU showcases Research & Innovation at the 1st World Geo Sustainability Festival


The 1st World Geo Sustainability Festival (WGSF), a landmark event in the global conversation on sustainability and innovation, was held in Malaysia and featured significant contributions from Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU), with the festival running from 28th to 29th June 2024.

The inaugural edition of the festival, hosted by ENHEROES Global Energy and supported by Petronas, brought together an impressive lineup of industry leaders, academic experts, and government officials, marking a significant step forward in global geo-sustainability efforts.

A notable session featured APIIT Education Group and APU’s Chief Innovation & Enterprise Officer Professor Ir EurIng Ts Dr Vinesh Thiruchelvam, discussing cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices, enriching the festival’s focus on innovation in sustainability.

Furthermore, another significant session featured Selangor State Executive Council Member The Honourable Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah, highlighting the integration of Islamic values with advancements in digital infrastructure and science, enriching the discourse on innovation and societal progress.

APU’s Pioneering Contributions

APU showcased groundbreaking research initiatives at the festival, demonstrating a steadfast commitment to innovation and advancing technology in sustainability and education.


Prof Vinesh captivated the audience with an engaging presentation on drone technology, illustrating its transformative potential to enhance sustainability efforts through practical applications and real-world demonstrations.

Additionally, APU’s virtual reality (VR) projects, presented by Mr Imran Mahalil, a VR engineer, Sagar Prema Rajan, and Mohammad Tahmidul Hasan, students from Master of Science in Computing, left a lasting impression on Petronas senior staff with their innovative applications and potential for enhancing immersive experiences in education and environmental conservation.

Not only that, they also presented immersive VR applications in education and environmental conservation, highlighting Mr Imran’s design of a VR bicycle training system.

This innovative system, scheduled for deployment at the National Sports Institute (ISN), aims to revolutionise the training experience for Malaysian cyclists by simulating diverse environmental conditions and enhancing performance through interactive virtual environments.

Unveiling of Edex Wonders of the World Mixed Reality Application

One of the most memorable highlights was the unveiling by Prof Vinesh, alongside Mr Imran, Sagar, and Mohammad Tahmidul, of APU’s groundbreaking Edex Wonders of the World mixed reality application.


This innovative platform is set to redefine engagement with geographical data, opening up exciting new possibilities for education and research in sustainability.

Moreover, it promises to revolutionise how people perceive and interact with global landscapes, offering immersive experiences that blend technology and learning seamlessly.

This advancement marks a significant step forward in leveraging technology for a more informed and interconnected global community.

Future Prospects

The WGSF 2024 has established Malaysia as a pivotal hub for geo-sustainability discussions from 2025 to 2030, catalysing partnerships and advancing global sustainable development through its collaborative spirit and technological innovation.

APU’s contributions and innovations showcased at the festival further underscore its dedication to shaping sustainable global initiatives through education and technological advancements, solidifying its pivotal role in fostering a greener and more resilient future.
