A glimpse into Actuarial Excellence at Sun Life Malaysia

The Actuarial Science Club (ASC) at Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) embarked on an insightful and enriching industrial visit to Sun Life Malaysia on 8th August 2024.

The visit aimed to give students a unique opportunity to explore the actuarial field, gain valuable industry insights, and connect with experienced professionals.

Before the visit began, students were inspired by a motivating speech from Mr Patrick Chow, Chief Actuary and Appointed Actuary at Sun Life Malaysia, who emphasised the importance of curiosity, passion, and asking quality questions as essential to achieving career excellence.

Activity 1: Engaging Breakout sessions with Industry Experts

Students were divided into four groups for interactive breakout sessions led by experts from various departments.

These sessions offered valuable insights into the different roles within insurance companies, equipping students with knowledge to make informed decisions about their internships and future careers.

Activity 2: Interactive learning through Financial Board Games

A fun and interactive board game session followed, designed to teach students essential concepts in insurance and financial management.

Modelled after Monopoly, the game challenged students to navigate real-life scenarios, enhancing their understanding of money management and the critical role of insurance in an engaging and memorable way.

Activity 3: Networking and Personal growth Opportunities

In the final phase of the visit, students engaged in a networking session with senior executives from various departments, where they toured the working area and received valuable, on-the-spot feedback on their resumes.

Following it, the visit concluded with an inspiring speech by Mr Lim Chin Har, Chief Risk Officer at Sun Life Malaysia, who encouraged students to pursue their goals with dedication and strive for a brighter future.
