APU Men’s Basketball Team Dominates UBL 2024


APU Men’s Basketball Team achieved a remarkable victory in the Gatorade University Basketball League (UBL) 2024, securing the championship title and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, showcased exceptional teamwork and perseverance, overcoming significant challenges to clinch the championship.

The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) Men’s Basketball Team made waves in the Gatorade University Basketball League (UBL) 2024, clinching the coveted first-place trophy.

Their exceptional performance was further boosted by team captain, Wan Yu Hong, who was crowned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the league.

Held at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Han Ming, Puchong, this year’s UBL witnessed a major breakthrough for the APU team.

After securing a commendable third runner-up position in the previous year, they surged ahead to claim the championship title and a prize worth RM5,000 in vouchers.

The victorious APU team comprised a diverse group of talented athletes from various programmes, including Computer Game Development, Cyber Security, Information Technology, Financial Technology (FinTech), Data Analytics, Information and Communication Technology (Software Engineering), and Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The lineup included Chai Zheng Lam, Eng Wei Han, Mui Hon Seng, Toh Jin Huang, Liew Jia Zheng, Easean Chan, Ng Juin Khai, Wan Yu Hong, Quek Yin Joe, Yap Jin Cheng, Lee Shu Yong, Ong Shao Xiang, Liew Wenn Yunn and Muhwezi Joel Rwabs, who hails from Uganda.

Chai Zheng Lam, APU Men’s Basketball Club President expressed his gratitude to his experienced teammates for guiding the team to victory.

He shared, “I am truly grateful to my teammates for their leadership and support.”

“Through this competition, I have learned invaluable lessons about teamwork and perseverance. One game, in particular, stands out, where we were trailing by a significant 20-point margin. However, our team’s unwavering spirit and collaborative effort propelled us to an incredible comeback win.”

Zheng Lam further emphasised the positive impact of the competition on both individual and team growth.

He concluded, “The UBL provided us with an excellent platform to connect with players from different institutions, fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship.

“We are excited to continue participating in similar competitions and strive to bring more glory to APU.”
