The students had developed a health-minded application that aims to improve cancer patients’ health from the aspect of their food intake, exercise and emotional needs.

Health3 enables every cancer patient to have the most sophisticated health monitoring application in addressing their individual needs, as well as to help them and their loved ones reach out to online resources and others in a similar situation. The system earned Cyber Knightz the grand prize of RM10,000.

Cyber Knightz, which comprises students Tan Jit Ren, Chan Wai Lun, Ker Jia Chiun and Wong Mun Choong and mentor Muhammad Anis Ur Rehman, also won the supplementary Innovation Award of RM1,000 presented by the Multimedia Development Corporation for the solution with the most business viability.

The team said Health3 was inspired by a friend whose mother was diagnosed with cancer.

Chan described the victory as “unbelievable”, saying no words could best describe their joy.

It took the team about three months to complete Health3 including working closely with cancer-related NGOs and patients.

Muhammad said the university was very proud of the team’s victory.

He added that the team would continue its work to improve and add more features to the system before going to New York.

Team Filius Educata and Asia Science of UCTI won the first and second runners-up and received RM5,000 and RM2,500 respectively.

Asia Science also received the Presentation Superstars Award of RM1,000.

Thirty teams took part in the national final, which was organised by Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) in collaboration with the Higher Education Ministry, Microsoft Malaysia, Prestariang Sdn Bhd and Multimedia Development Corporation.

The theme this year is “Solve This” and the challenges are based on the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
