Unleashing the Creativity - School of Media, Arts & Design Students Excelled at ACA World Championship 2017

Creativity is the key to success, and our students certainly knew how to showcase their creativity in the global arena!

We are proud to share that 3 of our students, Ainur Bagitova, Wong Chun Yew (BSC (Hons) in Multimedia Technology) and Clara Angelina (BA (Hons) in Advertising & Brand Management) were selected among 600 entries to be part of the top 30 finalists of the ACA World Championship Malaysia 2017 Grand Finale, a global competition that tests students’ design skills using Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. This competition was open to all institutions of higher learning, secondary schools, colleges and polytechnics, in which students whose major is in Art & Design were given a platform to showcase their work on a wider scale.

Our students worked on a poster under the theme, “Our Reefs Our Future”, in which the concept was developed to help Reef Check Malaysia, a NGO that is concerned about the coral reefs in Malaysia. Under the supervision of Mr. Leo Gertrude David and Ms. Debbie Liew, the students produced attractive posters in 1 months’ time, as shown below.

International Intellectual Exposition (IIEX) 2017 - APU Teams Attained 3 Medals at Exhibition cum Competition

Teams of APU students from the School of Computing & Technology continue to uphold their proud tradition of competition excellence by securing the Best Poster Award, Gold Medal and Bronze Medal at the recently concluded International Intellectual Exposition (IIEX) 2017, that was held at the Ancasa Hotel and Spa, Kuala Lumpur.

Our participation was deemed an impressive one because our students were among the youngest participants, as they competed directly against postgraduate students who came from various universities in Malaysia. Despite their young age, our students showed utmost confidences while they conducted their presentation to the panel of judges. Team Briend that comprised Megha Shailesh Patani and Karthikesan Kannan walked away with the Gold Medal and the Best Poster Prize. On the other hand, Ooi Shu He, Wong Chun Wai and Kho Zhi Yuen from Team AiRa and Vikna Raj, Larvania Somasundram, Winnie Tan Jia Ci, Loh Angie from Team Bracemed walked away with Bronze Medals, as a result of their excellent pitching skills during the exhibition.

All teams were mentored by Vinothini Kasinathan and Aida Zamnah from the School of Computing & Technology. Congratulations to the teams and their mentors, who have devoted tremendous efforts in preparing themselves for the competition! Experiences like these have definitely helped our students by exposing them to the industry out there.

Heated Up for the Fame!

Young and bold, 6 Diploma students – Yana Azia Muhammad Adib, Kho Zhi Yuen @ Summer, Saveetha Ganesan, Fong Suo Xuan, Ooi Shu He and Ng Pei Jia represented APU as the youngest participants in the Famelab Malaysia 2017 KL Heat, that was organized by the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) recently. Famelab, being one of the biggest science communication competitions in the world, took place at Petrosains, KLCC this year, and saw participation from 56 Science, Technology & Mathematics (STEM) professionals and researchers.

At the competition, participants were required to deliver a 3-minute presentation on a scientific, technological or mathematical concept to the panel of judges, who then asked questions and provided feedback to the participants. Despite being the youngest participants, APU students demonstrated their utmost confidence and won compliments from the judges. Kho Zhi Yuen @ Summer from Diploma in Information & Communications Technology (ICT) with a specialism in Software Engineering stood out among all participants. Her bubbly and confident personality wow-ed the judges, in which they selected her to be one of the Top 10 finalists of the competition. She was also the youngest finalist among all!

The students were mentored by Ms. Vinothini and Ms. Aida from the Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Technology (FCET), in which they also organized the APU Avant Garde 2016 in a similar format. Coming up next, Summer will represent APU to compete in the National Famelab, that will take place on 6 May 2017.
